Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

From February 4 to 10, Dr Annette Schavan shall travel to South Africa and Namibia to inform herself of the current status and future perspectives of German-African research projects. Dr Schavan and her delegation shall also visit the joint project BIOTA AFRICA.


 9 February 2008  On the 9th of February 2008, the German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Dr Annette Schavan, and her German delegation paid a visit to the BIOTA Biodiversity Observatories on the Farms Narais and Duruchaus near Rehoboth / Namibia. BIOTA researchers and local stakeholders discussed the research aims and main results of BIOTA with the Federal Minister and the delegation.

 6 February 2008  On the occasion of the visit of the German Federal Minister Dr Annette Schavan in South Africa, on the 6th February 2008 a German delegation visited the BIOTA project at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) in Kirstenbosch / Cape Town. Dr John Donaldson, SANBI Chief Director: Conservation Science and Chair of the South African BIOTA team, informed the delegates about the research strategies at SANBI, Prof Norbert Jürgens, Chair of BIOTA AFRICA, gave an introduction to BIOTA AFRICA project and Ms Tessa Oliver, BIOTA Liaison Officer in Cape Town, gave a presentation about the BIOTA capacity development programme in BIOTA.
