Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

The eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was held in Curitiba, Brazil from 20 to 31 March 2006.

On Wednesday, the 22.03.2006, BIOTA AFRICA was presented by staff members of BIOTA West Africa in a widely recognised side event: Karen Hahn-Hadjali  (University of Frankfurt, Gemany) presented the BIOTA research approach, Souleymane Konaté (University of Abobo-Adjame, Côte d'Ivoire) introduced the Zaï system of soil restoration using termites and Wolfgang Küper  (University of Bonn, Germany) and Brice Sinsin  (University of Abomey-Calavi, Benin) discussed African biodiversity conservation strategies.

The presentation was highly valued in a front-page report in the Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) on the following day.
