Weather data
A large number of automatic weather stations has been implemented in the frame of the BIOTA AFRICA project by the Namibian National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and the Group "Biodiversity, Evolution and Ecology" (BEE) of the University of Hamburg. The website offers hourly updates of data and graphs of a large number of weather parameters.

BioMonitoring Data Facility

BIOTA AFRICA aims at providing robust scientific information about the current status, recent change and future development of biodiversity on the African continent. To reach this objective, it is necessary to generate adequate data and to generate access to such data for a wide range of users. For this purpose, a vast array of data will have to be managed and made available under the aspects of

  1. access to and dissemination of scientific results,
  2. long-term availability and
  3. users and providers interests
The IT-management supports the process of collecting, processing and supplying data in BIOTA AFRICA.

The manifold research activities are reflected in diverse data sets that substantially contribute to research. The BIOTA data pool is the basis for data exchange between various data providers and users, in- and outside of the BIOTA initiative. Each infrastructure of BIOTA AFRICA and each scientist have a bi-directional relation to the BIOTA data pool by both providing own data for the data pool and having access to data, needed. The central importance of the BioMonitoring Data Facility for data curation and dissemination will continue after the end of phase III. Due to the long-term value of monitoring data it is essential to provide sustainable access to information gathered in the BIOTA AFRICA network.

The BioMonitoring Data Facility forms a joint infrastructure of all regional projects, BIOTA Morocco, BIOTA East Africa, BIOTA West Africa, BIOTA Southern Africa. The activities are the further implementation of a sustainable central biota data inventory and archive, the web presentation and the communication with African partner countries via data nodes.
